    I was unable to get the cap to break loose with my cheap spanner wrench, I tried a punch and hammer that didn't work either. I eventually heated the outside at the top to get it to break loose. I did not heat it enough to destroy the paint.

    That bottom right plug is a check valve if you ever remove it you could loose the tiny spring and inside part of the check valve and they are no longer available. There is also a check valve on the back side of the unit exactly the same as the front one, one is for up the other is for down. I was able to find a balance point on the motor with the safety stand flipped down and was able to remove the top pin with a pair of pliers after I pulled out the split key. I used penetrating oil overnight and the bottom tapped out with no problem. Great video, was a great help to me.

    Hi, subscribed! I have emailed you requesting your file. I was wondering how you’ve concluded that the rail is strong enough for the weight of the motor and force of the thrust? Any insights on how you got comfort there? Are these mount configurations universal or do you need a different configuration depending on the motor?

    • @FishinTooling
      @FishinTooling 3 місяці тому

      Hello! Thank you. Hopefully you got the files I emailed. That railing takes a lot of beating in general and I even hung on it some myself to see how it held up. I've had this trolling motor on here now for many years, with no signs of cracking, stress, or loosening. I've bumped into plenty of rocks and logs and used it quite a bit overall and had zero issues. For the mount itself, I added a quick change slider plate and those are universal typically. However, you can make the top plate whatever size works for you.

      @kuoaid it is not a 90 degree angle. The bottom is angled inward some. The best way to find the angle I needed was to mock it up with a couple pieces of wood and measure the angle.

      I use a 54" shaft and actually swap it back and forth with a quick change plate between my proline and whaler. The battery is under the front hatch (due to tight space, I am only using a 30amp-hour battery, but this lasts me 5-6hrs no problem for how I normally fish).

      We were using 3/4 oz. I didn't state it in the video. With not much wind it didn't matter much. Heavier wind you have to go up in weight with the drift to keep it on the bottom. So, we could have even used 5/8 oz.

    • @FishinTooling
      @FishinTooling Рік тому

      It could be the power pack but it could also be the stator. You can test the stator to see if it is producing power.....or you can just go ahead and replace each one by one until the problem is solved. You'll eventually fix the problem but it will cost a little more. In my opinion, it is good to go ahead and replace them both because they will both eventually go bad at some point and then you have fresh electronics in your engine.

    Thanks for this. Like mine, I notice when you are filling it with new oil, the unit is not exactly level as it is slightly at an angle with the transom. Does this matter as far as filling it with oil and getting as much as possible in there? I've tried to find a hill steep enough to get mine level when I'm filling it but haven't found one yet. I'm putting off changing these seals but I'm researching and buying the tools needed as I know it will need to be done at some point as it leaks at the top of the piston and the motor slowly seeps down. But for now it works enough to keep fishing.

    • @FishinTooling
      @FishinTooling Рік тому

      You should be able to fill at different angles. Most important is cycling a bunch of times to self bleed. Just inspect every once in a while and if you don't see fluid sitting on top of the cylinder then you are probably OK. I kept seeing fluid after each trip and that's why I know I had to change the seals.

      All the same areas should work in the winter that were fished the rest of the year, but will need to vertical jig rattle spoons, crappie jigs, blade baits. Tipped with wax worms, or a minnow on a treble hook jigged up and down. Sometimes they hang in the deeper spots too. It's all about timing.
